Vivienne Westwood is an iconic British fashion designer known for being largely responsible for championing new wave and modern punk fashions within the British fashion industry. The Godmother of Punk launched her namesake fashion label way back in 1970 and since then she has continued to present innovative and unique collections, with her signature pinstriped tailoring, tartan, corsets and Watteau (gathered and pleated) gowns.
Flame-haired Westwood continues with her trademark signature style with the Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2012 collection, topped of with a political statement for her favourite environmental cause. Often using her fashion shows as a platform, this season Vivienne Westwood is championing the cause of the Rainforest charity, Cool Earth, which is a campaign close to the designers heart that aims to save the most vulnerable Rainforest areas by 2020. Since launching in 2007, Cool Earth has worked with those indigenous to the rainforest to protect over 2.5 million acres in the Western Amazon and block the advance of illegal logging.
Compared with previous Red Label collections, the Spring/Summer 2012 offering was rather more subdued, with more of a clear theme running through the line. The collection featured all the Vivienne Westwood staples, with new spins on the draped, bias cut dresses; tailored checked and tartan trouser suits; pinstriped city shorts with matching vest and jackets; marigold and blue tie-dyed dresses; creatively cut shirts; and Grecian-looking silk jersey numbers in classic white and black.
Stand out pieces of the collection include a draped nautical mini dress; a cream and blue tartan slim-tailored trouser suit; a metallic silver pin-tucked and draped mini dress; and a stunning red floor length gown with fish tail silhouette and layer upon layer of tulle. As per usual, the collection was topped off with feral hair and makeup, so without further ado we present the Spring/Summer 2012 collection from Vivienne Westwood Red Label…Enjoy!
