Fashion Inspired by Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland was the theme behind Vivienne Westwood’s Red label Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 collection, which had its debut at the Royal Courts of Justine in London. Models walked the runway with rainbow and gold lacquer face paint, and sky high hair in the menswear inspired pieces, with the classic Vivienne Westwood eccentricity. Checked shirts with asymmetric collars and ‘wonky’ tie details were teamed with preppy cardigans, complete with college-style crest; and pinstripe suits were given the signature Vivienne Westwood twist and cut in new dimensions, with blazers featuring oversized pockets and trousers were given a paperbag waist and loose boyfriend fit.
Dresses came in a number of variations, from delicate floral and feminine numbers, to bold stripy off-the shoulder pieces, to vintage-looking brocade above-the-knee dresses, and to oversized fine-knit jumper dresses. Outerwear included bomber jackets reminiscent of he 1970’s, pea coats and mac jackets, and a selection of capes, including in blue cheetah and tweed prints.
The palette featured a rainbow of colours, from hot pink to royal blue, to regal red and tangerine orange, to charcoal and black. The fabric choices were as varied as the colour choices, with cotton, silk, English wool, satin and velvet all featuring in the collection. Of course there is always room in Vivienne Westwood’s collections for her signature tartan, which featured as a cape and school girl skirt, amongst others.
So without further ado, we present the Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 Red Label Collection from Vivienne Westwood…enjoy!
