Fashion for the Woman Warrior
“I can’t keep banging on about climate change, so I decided to express my thoughts about the planet through strong women, and the fact women are the guardians of culture,” – Dame Vivienne Westwood
For the Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week, Vivienne Westwood Gold Label gave us a new take on the woman warrior – the models marched down the glitter runway in crystal encrusted helmets covering long hair twisted into tribal plaits, while their faces were given heavy black warrior markings to complete the look.
The eccentric collection was awash with exaggerated proportions and silhouettes and mixed up fabrics that Vivienne Westwood has become so well known for. Herringbone tweed suits are draped and pin-tucked into interesting shapes; metallic brocade frock coats are teamed with ruched pinstripe skirts; and in a tribute to her beginnings her King’s Road address was printed onto ornate blanket shawls. The seventies also make an appearance in the collection, in the tribal printed green and orange jumpsuits. The undeniable stars of the collection the evening dresses, which feature gold bling aplenty and layers of voluminous taffeta.
So without further ado, we present the Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 collection from Vivienne Westwood Gold Label…enjoy!
