British Fashion Designer Manuela Dack

Even though, British fashion designer Manuela Dack only graduated in the summer of 2010 from Middlesex University, she has already made her mark on the fashion industry. Her graduate collection, which looked at ritualistic markings of the skin and cultural interpretations of beauty, landed her firmly on the fashion map and cemented her signature style. Her innovative and luxurious creations have attracted the interest of some of the world’s most influential fashion press, including Italian Vogue.

Having previous experience working with highly respected designers, such as Hussein Chalayan and Alexander Wang, it was only natural for Manuela to set up a label of her own. She set up her namesake fashion label in 2010, starting with a capsule collection of jackets, which soon evolved into a fully formed collection. Since then the designer has never looked back.

As well as her seasonal collections, Manuela Dack also creates one-off bespoke pieces for select private clients, which gives her the freedom to explore higher levels of craftsmanship. In August 2011, the Manuela Dack Autumn/Winter 2011 was exclusively launched in the prestigious Blue Bird boutique on London’s Kings Road.

The Manuela Dack Brand Aesthetic

Since the launch of her namesake label in 2010, Manuela Dack has quickly gained a reputation for her subtle modern chic aesthetic and exquisite attention to detail. In her collections, Manuela Dack juxtaposes soft feminine fabrics, such as sheer chiffon, with harder masculine materials, including leather and metals to create beautifully constructed and experimental pieces.

Collections of the Manuela Dack Label

Manuela Dack’s graduate collection was presented in the summer of 2010. This was followed by small capsule collections for Spring/Summer 2010 onwards (including a presentation at London fashion Week for S/S 2011), before launching her fist full collection for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season in August 2011.

    • Autumn/Winter 2011-12: For the Autumn/Winter 2011-12 season, Manuela Dack has taken her inspiration from a vintage dress that was handed down to her from her stylish mother. Additional influences come from travelling and growing up in Iran, with hints of nostalgia littering the collection. The cut and the finish of each garment remains contemporary and up to date, giving a fresh feel to the collection. The collection features beautifully layered pieces in dark, smoky hues to create garments that appear effortless and wearable, while keeping a lightness of texture to keep the collection seasonally transitional.

  • Spring/Summer 2012: For her upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Manuela Dack was inspired by the sea life illustrations of the 19th Century zoologist, Ernst Haeckel and from her experiences growing up on a small Caribbean Island. The designer has incorporated many elements from her childhood, such as colours and textures, combined with traditional crafts such as weaving, beading and embroidery to create a craft-based collection.

Future of the Manuela Dack Fashion Label

Expect to see future Manuela Dack collections continuing to focus on luxury and quality. Manuela has already shown an interest in pursuing developing new technologies and materials with her scented print, which reacts to body heat, slowly releasing embedded oil-based fragrances as they warm up. Expect to see further exciting innovations from this promising British designer. Additionally, sponsorship with Vauxhall Fashion Scout, means that Manuela Dack had debuted at the showrooms for the London and Paris Fashion Weeks for 2011. Finally, the designer has expressed an interest in branching out into menswear in the future, but states that it this won’t be for a few seasons yet.
