The Angel Jackson fashion label was founded in 2005 by sisters Katie and Millie Smith. The due wanted to create a global luxury accessories label that produced well designed and stylish accessories using ethically sourced materials and safe working conditions. The brand soon gained a reputation for its glamorous and stylish accessories, catching the attention of the fashion press and buyers alike. So successful was the launch, that within the brand’s first season, Angel Jackson won the Topshop NewGen Designer Award. Since then the Angel Jackson brand has continued to go from strength to strength.

Whilst being ‘ethical’ Angel Jackson still manages to be recognised for their stylish and glamorous accessories. The designer label is regularly featured on the pages of fashion magazines including InStyle, Vogue, Nylon, Elle and L’Officiel. The brand also continues to wow the crowds and critics at Fashion Weeks around the world for their contemporary and edgy handbags made from an eclectic mix of materials including snake skin, beads and feathers. The mix of ethical production and high fashion has gained Angel Jackson many a celebrity fan including Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Blake Lively, Mischa Barton, Alison Mosshart, Paloma Faith, and Marina Diamandis.

The Smith sisters have achieved their aim of creating a global accessories brand. As of 2011, the Angel Jackson label had a presence in over 40 countries worldwide. The brand is only stocked in the finest boutiques and department stores including London’s Harrods, Paris’ Le Bon Marché, Hong Kong’s Harvey Nichols, Tokyo’s Tomorrow Land and Moscow’s Podium.

The core value of the Angel Jackson label has always been to create a modern and covetable brand that is not detrimental to the environment or people, but instead has a positive effect on communities. Katie and Millie believed from the outset that it was possible to create an ethical, designer international label that used sustainably sourced products and offered safe and fair working conditions for their staff. The sisters make this possible with Katie designing the collections in Bristol and Millie overseeing the production in fair-trade workshops in Bali.

The sisters remain in complete control of the process, overseeing all production, and making sure that fair trade conditions are not only met but exceeded. Their workshop, which contains a team of talented craftsmen and women, is recognised by the World’s Fairtrade Organisation. Additionally, the brand vets all suppliers to make sure that all raw materials are ethically produced and come from sustainable sources.

Strong supporters of charity, the sisters have set up a Bali fund that helps 2 charities: Street Kids and the Mother Baby Fund. As well as their charitable contributions Angel Jackson promotes fair pay and contributes to the health care and education of their workers.

Future of the Angel Jackson Brand

In the future, the brand plans to build on its success in the international markets with a focus on China, Japan, Russia, India and the USA. Additionally, Angel Jackson also has plans in place to produce luggage and ready-to-wear collections. Finally, the brand has expressed an interest to collaborate with artists and designers with a shared creative vision.
